Exploring Climate Mission

Our History:

From Exploring Justice to Exploring Climate

In 2015, Jim Clifford returned from civil rights research in Alabama with a challenge to help students learn about social justice in Connecticut. He created the Exploring Justice program, and with other teachers, brought students from New Haven and surrounding towns to meet at Yale University with community leaders fighting for social, economic, criminal, juvenile and environmental justice.

In 2019, we shifted entirely to environmental justice, including a courtroom re-enactment of a local environmental case that prohibited the re-opening of a 100 year old power plant in a vulnerable, over-burdened community. These experiences inspired the creation of the Exploring Climate program and website.
